WHAT I NEED TO KNOW ON
SIZING INSTRUCTIONS
Your belt size is typically 2" bigger than
your pant waist size.
For example: If your PANT size is 34
and you are wearing a...

36" minus the bar to hook measurement on
the back of the buckle.

The Theme Buckle adds the needed 2 inches
to make the proper fit.
If you have an EXTRA LARGE buckle, that
will change the size even more. Please let me know when you
order.

THINGS I CAN'T AND WON'T DO...
Just a note
to say, I am a Christian and this is a Christian business.
I will put most anything on a belt except things and words
that go against my moral values. For example, I
don't carry "pot" stamps and will not put curse words or
upside down 5 pointed stars (pentagrams) on belts. I
hope you understand my convictions on this, we are here to
glorify God in whatever we do.
1 Corinthians 10:31
"Whether, then, you eat or
drink or whatever you do,
do all to the glory of God."
...that includes what
I put on my belts...
I do not duplicate old belt patterns that were "rolled belt
designs". I will probably have a belt pattern
similar to what you have, so browse around all the 500+ belts and find something
you like.
You can choose any stamps, color tone, texture you like to
create your own individual design.
I do not charge per stamp or letter like some other crafters, just fill up the
belt with whatever you like!
The average belt is $40 plus $8 s/h = $48 total.
If you want it painted/colored, that is $5 extra...see pricing below near bottom

PAINTING and Coloring
Painting I use Acrylic paints, Coloring I use
Permanent Markers, which I prefer to do, you don't have to worry about the color
being scratched off.
The picture below reflects
the colors I have in permanent markers.
Blue, Hot Pink, Green, Orange, Red, Purple, Yellow. I can color the TOP
part of the letters and
some of the other parts of the stamps, like the flowers.
A note about PAINTING on belts: It is
an ACRYLIC paint and after painting I add an acrylic finish over
top to help protect it. It is PAINT and eventually over
time, it will probably get scratched. You have to be extra
careful with painted belts. If scratched off, they can be
re-painted and look fine. I prefer the two tone black
brown look with the black letters with the brown background,
they just last longer and you don't have to worry about the
paint scratching off. I offer FREE touch ups on any
of my belts....just ship it to me with return postage and I will
be more than happy to touch it up. Call/email before you
ship so I can give you the shipping address!!!
Using acrylic paint, I have a
few more colors.
I can paint the TOP part of the letters like you see
BELOW in Desert Knights.
I do not paint the outline of the letters, it gets too messy and does not look
good.
In some of the pics the outline looks "white",
what you see is the natural cream color of the leather.
The sample above is a nature cream outline with red letters,
this is a typical painted acrylic belt.
Once again, I can't do a "blue" outline and red letters. I can do an all black
with painted letters like below.
The outlines will be either natural cream or black or if it is a drum dyed brown
belt, it will be the color of the drum dye.

SPECIAL LOGOS/STAMPS
Custom Stamps/Logos...I can have
special stamps made like the above logo or like the pictures below, but that is
an additional cost of $50 plus the cost of the belt. I need a camera
ready, black and white, line art picture like the ones below. It takes about 10 days to two weeks to get it back. You own the stamp and
I can store it for you or send it to you with your belt/order.
Usually the standard
stamp is 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" square. Larger stamps are
more money.

Names on belts can be done several
ways. Below "Capt. Dick" and "MEGAN" are the "natural
impressions". Below that is the "natural impression"
plus dying the letters black to make a nice contrast with the two tone
effect, like the belt "MELLISSA". The third way is to "antique" the letters. A dark
brown paste fills in the grooves to bring out the outline of the letters
and gives a very nice contrast to the belt. (VILLENEUVE)

Any design can be done
in black. The images will be impressed directly on an already
drum/vat dyed belt, so the impression will not have the natural color outline.
The image shows up very nicely, but will not have a bold look. The "drum
dyed belts" come in Black, Med. Brown, Dark Brown.
Solid Drum Dyed belts are $5 off tooled belt prices. Tooled Drum Dyed
belts are regular listed prices.

Handcrafted Leather Belts Your Design or Mine!

Handcrafted?
"Handmade"
doesn't always mean "handcrafted". In my travels doing
craft shows/festivals, I have seen all kinds of belts, many of them
unfinished and many
"rolled mass produced belts"
pawned off as handmade. Someone
with a lettering set, stamps a name on a rolled belt
and calls it handmade.
Just
the other day, a young lady bought one of my buckles and asked if I could
put it on her belt. I looked at the belt that she just bought, none of the edges were
beveled, the edges were not even dyed, no finishes were on the top or back
and the belt size was several inches too big!
She ended up with a HALF MADE BELT,
but paid full price.
I went ahead and finished the belt, resized it for her and attached the
buckle. Don't get taken!
If you don't buy from me, that's fine, but make sure when you do buy,
check out below the list of things to look for so you won't get taken...
Quality is never an
accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort,
intelligent direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise
choice of many alternatives.

Don't end up with a half made belt!
Here is what to look for...
-
Ask if the leather
is made from DOUBLE SHOULDER/BUTTS, DOUBLE BEND or BRIDLE leather/cowhide.
If it is made from the SIDE of the cow, it is inferior and
will stretch and roll in the back.
-
Ask the craftsman
how long he has been making belts. Amateurs give amateur
results. Professionals give professional results!
-
Look to see if all
the edges of the belt are beveled/trimmed/smooth. If not, over time
the sharp edges of the belt will cut into the belt loops of your
pants. Edges should be dyed, smooth and rounded.
Check the top
and back of the belt to see if it has a finish coating. If not,
if you tend to sweat, without a finish coating the belt will absorb
the sweat, weaken, roll and discolor your belt. -
See if the dying
is even and consistent. You don't want an ugly belt!

Look for double
impressions of stamps and letters.
Ask if "they"
make the belts! Are they really Handmade or just machine
rolled? Most rolled belts are made from the "side" and not the
"double shoulder/backs or bridle leather", which are the BEST belt leathers.
Stay away from sides. If you see a
rack of "seconds" or "mistakes", someone doesn't know what they are
doing. You may want to keep looking! Make sure they
size you properly!!! If you don't run a measuring belt or
measuring tape through
the belt loops,
your belt will NOT
fit right!!! Just for fun, let them size you and see how they do
it. See if they even ask you what "type" of buckle you plan to
wear with your belt. It makes a
2" difference whether you
wear a regular or theme buckle!
Finally, and it's
true, you will get what you pay for!
I've been told over and over again that my belts are too cheap for the
quality and workmanship. But I want to keep the price down so it
will be affordable to everyone.
I have only seen a handful of
craftsmen that I have been impressed with. There are not many of
us left that take pride in our work, who put their Heart and Soul into
their work...and when you do, you get...
"Belts with Heart and Soul!"
Just Google
"handmade leather belts"
and you will see thousands of links, but less than a half a dozen or so that
truly make handcrafted belts. I sincerely doubt you will find
better made or better quality belts than what you will find here
at...

Regular Buckle

Buckle
Above is the "Regular Buckle" that comes with the belt if
you don't wear a "Theme Buckle". A "Screw Post" attaches the buckle
for easy exchange of your buckles.
If you prefer a snap to attach the buckle please let me
know on the order form. The belt has to be sized differently
for a regular buckle vs a theme buckle. The theme buckle will make the
belt approx. 2" longer (see sizing page for more info on sizing).
If you
specify that you will be wearing a theme buckle the regular buckle will not be
sent. |

STEPS IN MAKING A CUSTOM
BELT
The process of making a custom belt takes
about an hour as described below...
I first cut the double shoulder cowhide into strips.
I then measure/size the belt, mark the holes and center of the belt.
All edges need to be beveled so that the edges will become round and smooth.
You now apply the design with stamps and/or carving.
Then apply the dye to the edges for a two tone effect.
Continuing with a light choc color and dye the flags dark.
Now dye the background with a light/med brown.
Now dye the edges black or use black Tuff Kote.
After the dying process then apply a Carnuba wax/Resolene/Tuff Kote finish to the top.
Also apply a acrylic finish to the back to repel moisture/sweat.
After you have applied the finishes, buff and slick down the edges
until they are smooth.
Now punch holes for the buckle and also the tongue of the belt.
Because I use a 9/10 oz weight, you need to skive down
the fold of the buckle to take the bulk out to make it flatter.
After this I attach the buckle with a screw post.
The Double Bend/Shoulder sections work best for belts.
